Agenda, Minutes SPS Review Team

The Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) Protective Relay Subcommittee (PRS) shall report to the Midwest Reliability Organization, Reliability Assessment Committee (RAC).  The purpose of the PRS is to address the protective relay and control issues, including both generator and transmission protection within the MRO footprint.

In carrying out the above purpose, the PRS will:

  • Provide guidelines to the MRO for protective relay and control standards.
  • Review quarterly protection system mis-operation reports from the MRO members to identify potential issues that may cause chronic mis-operations.
  • Review new and modified Special Protection System (SPS) schemes.
  • Provide a five year review and summary report of all SPS schemes.
  • Provide technical oversight of the MRO SPS database.
  • Provide technical input to the NERC System Protection and Control Task Force (SPCTF) on behalf of the MRO.
  • Address relay and control issues as assigned by the RAC.
  • Coordinate with the Transmission Assessment Subcommittee (TAS) to form and maintain a SPS Review Team.
