Model Building Subcommittee (MBS)

Roster

Schedule MRO Model Release Information

Reporting to the Planning Committee, the Model Building Subcommittee (MBS) promotes the reliability of the bulk electric systems in the MRO Region. The MBS is responsible for annually developing a library of solved power flow models and associated dynamics simulation models, and a short circuit model of the MRO Corporate Region. The models are for use by the Region and its member systems in planning future performance and evaluating current operating conditions of the interconnected bulk electric systems.

The MBS is responsible to monitor the collection and processing of electric system data to support MRO, NERC, EIA, and any other data publications as necessary and to help eliminate duplication and inefficiency in data reporting processes while improving overall data accuracy and consistency.

Scope of Activities
In carrying out the above purpose, the MBS will:

  • Oversee the development of a library of solved (converged) steady-state system models.
  • Oversee the development of compatible dynamic system models.
  • Oversee the development of short circuit models.
  • Oversee the collection of Under Frequency Load Shedding and Under Voltage Load Shedding data.
  • Oversee the annual updating of facility equipment ratings based on the document entitled MAPP Transmission Data Capacity Listing (i.e., XCAP).
  • Oversee the updating of the MRO contingency files.
  • Prepare documentation of each model series.
  • Oversee the benchmarking of the models. Include the results of this benchmarking in the documentation of the model series.
  • Maintain a MRO Model Building Procedural Manual.
  • Maintain a system dynamics modeling database of the MRO footprint.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Planning Committee.
